Fact and figures show that students from higher education origination from secondary vocational education show lower success rates compared to those coming from general secondary education. These differences are most striking for students  with a non-Western background. Saxion University of Applied Sciences started a Students-4-Students project in cooperation with ROC van Twente and the University of Twente to support these students. Results from a preceding Comenius project showed that non-Western students have specific needs, which can be divided according to three different themes: improving study- and language skills, parent involvement and changing attitudes from teachers and fellow students. A S4S student platform or community will develop and implement multiple activities concerning the three different themes, and thereby improve and add to existing, already integrated projects.

We are looking for Dutch speaking students with a non-Western background (originating from the Arabic cultures) who want to be part of this platform. Are you looking for a paid job, for approximately 2-3 hours per week, in which you can make an important contribution to equity in education (maximum duration of three years)? Please contact us for more information and application: Nursel Akdeniz (n.akdeniz@saxion.nl) and Rilana Prenger (h.c.prenger@saxion.nl).
